In partnership with Terra Incógnita, the Oceanário de Lisboa invites families to discover the richness of the mouth of the Tagus River.

The Oceanário de Lisboa has partnered with the Terra Incógnita sailing school to provide a new experience for those who want to know the richness of the mouth of the Tagus. On a boat trip, in addition to seeing dolphins up close, you’ll have the opportunity to talk to a marine biologist, who promises not to miss any curiosity about the many other species that inhabit the border between the river and the sea, such as gannets, swallows cormorants, cormorants and sometimes even sharks.

Lisbon is the only European capital where you can see dolphins in the wild. And sightings are becoming more common. According to fishermen, the increase has been constant over the last three years and is becoming more noticeable in 2021. In an interview published in the latest issue of Time Out Lisboa magazine, on newsstands, the founder and general director of Terra Incógnita, Bernardo Queiroz, said that, after 30 years in the river, he saw some things for the first time in the last year and a half. “There shouldn’t be any capital in Europe – and there should be few in the world – that have groups of 30, 40, we’ve already seen 20 dolphins enter the river to feed.”

Feel like going on a boat ride and seeing the dolphins? The visit on the boat, lasting two and a half hours, costs €48 per child (from 6 to 12 years old) and €60 per adult (from 13 onwards). If you opt for a more complete program, with dolphin watching, a visit to the Lisbon Oceanarium and the offer of a #SeaTheFuture T-shirt, prices increase to 67€ and 87€.
